Being a Boy Scout isn’t ‘Assimilation Enough’??? ఫ్రిస్కో హనుమాన్ టెంపుల్ వివాదం. ఆసక్తికరమైన చర్చ!

మే 24న చేసిన '**అన్న, ఇది అమెరికా**' లైవ్ స్ట్రీమ్‌లో, అమెరికాలో హిందూ ధర్మాన్ని ఆచరించడం పట్ల వస్తున్న ఇబ్బందుల గురించి, ముఖ్యంగా టెక్సాస్‌లోని ఫ్రిస్కో హనుమాన్ టెంపుల్ చుట్టూ జరిగిన వివాదాల గురించి మేమంతా మాట్లాడుకున్నాము.

ఫ్రిస్కోలో కొందరు జాత్యహంకారులు (racists) మన హిందూ ఆచారాలపై ఎందుకు వ్యతిరేకత చూపిస్తున్నారో మేము ప్రధానంగా చర్చించాము. మార్క్ పొలాస్కియానో అనే యాక్టివిస్ట్ ఫ్రిస్కో సిటీ కౌన్సిల్ మీటింగ్స్‌కి పదే పదే వచ్చి భారతీయుల మీద, హిందువుల మీద ఎలా జాత్యహంకార వ్యాఖ్యలు చేశాడో మాట్లాడుకున్నాము. కనీసం మన పిల్లలు బాయ్ స్కౌట్స్‌ (Boy Scouts) లో పాల్గొనడాన్ని కూడా అతను తప్పుబట్టడం ఎంత దారుణమో చర్చించుకున్నాము.

అలాగే, డల్లాస్-ఫోర్ట్ వర్త్ (DFW) ఏరియా నుండి లైన్ లోకి వచ్చిన 'DFW దేశీ' అనే కాలర్, అమెరికాలో హిందూ మతాన్ని పాటించేటప్పుడు మనం ఏం చేయాలి, ఏం చేయకూడదు (do's and don'ts) అనే విషయాలపై చాలా మంచి సమాచారాన్ని మాతో పంచుకున్నారు.

ఈ చర్చలో మేము ప్రధానంగా అనుకున్నది ఏంటంటే – "కేవలం వాళ్ళతో కలిసిపోవడం (assimilation) మాత్రమే సరిపోదు." స్టేజ్ మీద బాయ్ స్కౌట్స్ డ్రెస్ లో ఉన్న 13 మంది పిల్లలు బ్రౌన్ స్కిన్ ఉన్న భారతీయులు కాబట్టే వాళ్లకు అదొక పెద్ద సమస్యగా మారింది. బాయ్ స్కౌట్ అవ్వడం కంటే పక్కా అమెరికన్ సంస్కృతి ఇంకేముంటుంది? అయినా సరే వాళ్ళు అభ్యంతరం చెప్తున్నారంటే, అందులో కచ్చితంగా జాత్యహంకారం ఉందనే విషయాన్ని మేము స్పష్టం చేశాము. దీంట్లో కూడా జాత్యహంకారం (racism) కనిపించట్లేదు అంటే అంతకంటే విడ్డూరం ఇంకోటి ఉండదు.

I am joined by Professor Morley and a highly informed caller, "DFW Desi," to unpack why certain individuals are actively revolting against Hindu practices in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We specifically discuss the actions of a local activist who has repeatedly used Frisco City Council meetings to launch racist rants against Indians and Hindus—going so far as to object to Indian children participating in the Boy Scouts.

During this discussion, I make the point that "assimilation is not enough." When you see 13 brown-skinned Indian boys on a stage participating in the Boy Scouts—one of the most quintessential American traditions—and people *still* take issue with it, the root of the problem is glaringly clear. If people cannot see the racism in that, I don't know what else to call it. DFW Desi also brings valuable, on-the-ground insights into the "do's and don'ts" of practicing Hinduism as an immigrant in the US.

This is a vital, must-watch conversation about religious freedom, racism, and what it truly means to assimilate in modern America.
