In this segment of the May 24th live stream of *Annaa, idi America*, Professor Murali, DFW Desi and I discussed the marathon Frisco, Texas City Council meeting that started at 5:00 p.m. and didn't end until 1:00 a.m. We talked about the intense debate surrounding city permits for new Hindu temples, mosques, and a Jain temple in our community.

Out of about 50 approved speakers, many used their platform to oppose the building of these religious institutions, spewing anti-immigrant sentiment and hatred against Hindus and Indians. We specifically focused on one featured citizen activist, Jake Lang—a January 6th rioter facing numerous criminal charges, including credible accusations of soliciting sex from a minor. He delivered a deeply racist rant against Hindus, Muslims, and Jains.

We also explored the political impact of this kind of rhetoric, specifically looking ahead to the upcoming Senate elections in November. At the time of this broadcast, it was clear Ken Paxton would win the Republican runoff, setting up a major matchup against Democrat James Talarico. My prediction was that this will be one of the most expensive Senate races in history, and Ken Paxton will likely use wedge issues at his disposal—including anti-Indian hate—to try and defeat his opponent.

To bring a firsthand perspective to our discussion, a viewer named "DFW Desi" from the Dallas-Fort Worth area joined our call. She was in attendance at that city council meeting and gave us a firsthand account of the proceedings. She also shared exactly what is happening in and around the Hanuman Temple in Frisco, highlighting the beautiful collaborative spirit and collegiality between the temple and the neighboring church. She opened up about her religious beliefs, which drove her passion for these subjects and motivated her to speak out.
