In this heartbreaking segment, Kiran, Murali, and I sat down to discuss the immense, and sometimes fatal, pressures faced by our diaspora community. I brought up the tragic news of a young Telugu student who recently took his own life due to joblessness—a devastating loss that deeply affected me and prompted this conversation. Kiran shared a deeply personal account of the crushing debt he carried when he first moved to the US, and he recounted the devastating story of an elderly woman who ended her life under the heavy weight of family expectations and financial stress. Murali and I cautioned against the blind pursuit of the "American Dream," warning families back in India about the volatile US job market and the dangerous burden of massive educational loans. Kiran also highlighted the desperate need for the Indian government to step up and assist in repatriating bodies, rather than leaving the financial and logistical burdens entirely on our cultural organizations. I wanted this discussion to serve as a stark and heavy reminder: no job, visa, or financial struggle is ever worth a human life.
