In this video I share my thoughts on the recent White House Correspondents' Dinner that took place on Friday, July 24th. Recording from a public park, I reflect on my early understanding of press freedom, shaped by the Jai Andhra movement and the Emergency under Indira Gandhi, contrasting it with the Watergate scandal that forced Nixon's resignation. I strongly criticize the Correspondents' Dinner as a "bad idea," pointing out the hypocrisy of journalists sharing jokes and drinks with Donald Trump—a man who has repeatedly labeled the press the "enemy of the people" and sued news organizations for billions. I also revisit the 2011 dinner where Barack Obama mocked Trump's birther claims, analyzing how that moment likely fueled Trump's vendetta and political ambitions. Finally, I discuss the absurdity of Trump attending this year's event and smiling while the Wall Street Journal received an award for exposing his connections to Jeffrey Epstein, despite his $20 billion defamation lawsuit against them.
