In this segment, Kiran and I expose what I can only describe as a "war on citizenship" being waged by both the Indian and American governments, where the very documents meant to protect our identity are being turned against us. We start with the shocking reality in India, where the Ministry of External Affairs has essentially devalued the Indian passport by suggesting it isn't definitive proof of citizenship. Kiran and I discuss how this administrative "war" targets older generations especially; I shared my own struggle of being born at home via a midwife and having to fight through legal affidavits just to prove I exist to a government that suddenly finds its own records insufficient.

We then shift the lens to the United States, where a similar front is opening up with the "SAVE Act." We break down how this isn't just about security, but a tactical maneuver to weaponize the lack of documentation. By demanding birth certificates or passports to register to vote—documents that millions of Americans simply do not have—the government is effectively narrowing the definition of who "counts" as a citizen. Whether it’s the bureaucratic shifting of goalposts in India or the legislative barriers being erected in the U.S., we explore how both nations are using "proof of identity" as a weapon to complicate, and in some cases undermine, the fundamental rights of their own people.
