Rest in Peace, Padmanabham Garu

Basavaraju Venkata Padmanabha Rao popularly known as Padmanabham: 20 August 1931 – 20 Feb 2010.

In his 65-year old film career, he made millions laugh and at times cry as an actor. One of the most significant gifts he gave the Telugu community is introducing SP Balasubrahmanyam in his production, Sri Sri Sri MaryadaRaamanna.

The two songs that immediately came to my mind when I heard the news are:

  1. ఆకలయ్యి అన్నమడిగితే: దేశోద్ధారకులు
  2. అహో ఏమి ఈ  వింత మొహం: శ్రీ శ్రీ శ్రీ మర్యాదరామన్న

The first is a touchy song. Padmanabham, the comedian, makes you cry with his acting. A tidbit about the second song: “aavakaayatho annapraasana (ఆవకాయతో అన్నప్రాసన)” This is what SP Balu said about singing his first song with the legends like Sushil, PB-Srinivas and K-Raghuramayya. Listen to the songs and remember Padmanabham garu.
